Is Your Idea Innovative Enough To Make a Startup Based On It?

That’s one of the most common doubts when it comes to making a business. People read a lot about innovations and wondering if their idea is innovative enough to achieve success with their online business.

That’s one of the most common doubts when it comes to making a business. People read a lot about innovations and wondering if their idea is innovative enough to achieve success with their online business.

But you know what? Innovation is not the most important thing in building a business. Neither is the innovative idea. You can achieve spectacular success in business without an innovative idea. Equally, your business can be a huge failure even if you think that your idea is the most innovative one on the planet.

There’s no rule. What really counts is the implementation.

Look at Zappos. Did they have an innovative idea at the beginning? Come on! They were selling shoes online. But because of their phenomenal corporate culture and customer service experience – Tony Hsieh was able to build a more-than-a-billion-dollars company.

Look at Basecamp. Did they have an innovative idea? Not really. Their success is based on everything they were doing around the company.

Look at Facebook. Were they the first social media website? No, of course not.

Look at WineLibrary.com or VaynerMedia. It’s because of great Gary Vaynerchuk’s marketing skills and charisma they were able to achieve such a great success.

Look at most of the successful businesses out there. Some of them were innovative at the beginning. Sure, they were. But some of them were not. But the way they were building the company and the brand was the way, thanks to which they were able to do something spectacular.

You don’t need to have an innovative idea to build a successful company. You can be better at marketing, you can be better at sales, you can be better at anything. And that could be the recipe for success. So don’t wait for the next big thing or the next innovative idea. If you have an idea and you truly believe in it – simply implement it. Just try, learn, get feedback, analyze everything and then decide what to do next. If that won’t give you spectacular results – you can always pivot.

    Hi Karol,

I totally agree with you. If you build a solid enough product then it is all about the customer experience you provide and the marketing strategy applied. This article is a must read for many young entrepreneurs who believe that they only need a great idea and in no time they will become billionaires…

    1. Thank you @kaloyan_dimitrov:disqus :)

  5. […] More than that… I would say that sharing your ideas with others is even more important than you think. Yes, SHARING YOUR IDEAS (even ideas, that you think are so great, so innovative, that you want to build a business based on them). […]
