Founder’s Diary #8 – Start&Grow and Squidility’s blog

At last! This week I recorded the very first episode of Start&Grow – my new video project. And I fixed a layout of Squidility’s blog. Now it should look great, on both desktop and mobile devices.

March 7th, 2016

Typical Monday, I would say. Lots of small things to do at PayLane, a few quick meetings and PayLane Evolve! again.

Later on, in the afternoon, I had to add a few things to Squidility. Sometimes fetching blog posts’ titles were not working properly (especially those from sites behind https and gzipped ones). After 3 hours of work, everything’s ready.

In the evening – a few more House of Cards episodes.

March 8th, 2016

A lot of small things to do at PayLane in the morning.

Last week we decided that someone from the customer support department should join our daily IT meetings. Today it’s the very first day of such meetings. This meeting took about an hour. Next ones have to be much shorter.

In the evening, I optimized fetching stats from Twitter API. Now it works much, much faster then ever before. Next, I went to sleep (surprisingly early, as for me).

March 9th, 2016

I woke up early. Before 7am. So I had time to go for a run before everyone woke up at home.

During the day – traditionally some small things to do at PayLane. I’ve also published a new Founder’s Diary episode. I’ve also found two new articles about PayLane Evolve! in press.

In the evening, preparing to my first recording of Start&Grow. Later on, some tests of musical.ly (heard a lot about this app before, so I had to find out what it is). The next big thing? Will see. As for now it’s not for me. Maybe I’ll change my mind in the future (I had similar feelings about Snapchat at the beginning and now I’m simply loving it).

March 10th, 2016

I was a little bit stressed before recording the first Start&Grow episode. But once I started, it wasn’t so bad. It took me about an hour to record a short (~3min) episode, but that was the very first time for me. Next time it should take me much less time.

Additionally, a lot of things at PayLane during the day + I’ve published a new blog post on Across the Board blog (this one: Which Online Payment Methods Allow Recurring Billings?) + the second meeting of IT+Support (much shorter one, ~20min).

In the evening, I was trying to learn as much as I could (for my video project). I tried to learn how exactly the whole recording thing works, what kind of recording equipment I need, how the other people record, how they edit their films etc. I was also planning my new project, YouTube channel and all the things around that.

March 11th, 2016

During the day – lots of things to take care at PayLane, including next IT+Support meeting (15min long meeting is what I wanted to achieve and this meeting was exactly 15min long).

In the evening – preparing for Start&Grow, talking to a few more experienced film creators, listening to their advice.

Later on, meeting with family and no work at all.

March 12th, 2016

Family day till the evening.

In the evening, I started to work on the layout of Squidility’s blog. I thought it would take me an hour, or maybe two. I worked on it till 4.30 am and still did not finish everything.

March 13th, 2016

In the morning, some work on Squidility’s blog. ~4 hours of work.

In the afternoon – meeting with friends. I also went for Kolosy 2016 (meetup of travelers and alpinists – I love these guys, they do such great things).

In the evening – Squidility’s blog again. About an hour of work and at last everything’s ready.

Now it should look great on both desktop and mobile device. I’m damn proud of myself.

Btw. You can follow my founder’s journey at Snapchat. I put a lot of stuff there. My nickname: karolzielinski
